COME CLEAN

Somehow Don wakes up and realizes that the alarm in his dream is his own alarm clock which has been going off for the past fifteen minutes. He shuts the clock off but he has trouble getting up because he feels like he has not slept at all. He thinks about his johnson and decides he better get up.

Sitting up, he thinks back to when he had sex with Ebony and Zelda. He did not use anything as far as protection. Don wonders if he should tell D.J. who probably hit it some more after he left. “Shit,” he says while getting dressed and deciding not to call his boy yet. Don feels nervous because he knows anything can happen at any time.

He looks in the mirror and thanks the Supreme Being that all of his teeth are still there. His hair and nails are also present but he can feel the disease inside him. His mind is putrefying from the drugs, his body is infected with deadly germs, and his soul is haunted by his conscience. A conscience that tells him he needs to come clean and tell the truth.

As he brushes his teeth, he plans his next few moves. He will leave the letter in the living room before going to the train station. Then he is going to the clinic on 23rd street because he wants to go far away from where he lives. He does not want anyone to recognize him.

As he prepares to leave, his mind wonders about what the day will bring. Once again he kneels down to pray. Then he grabs his music player and knapsack as he makes his exit.

“You’re up early,” says his grandma sipping tea in the living room.

“I’m trying to get an early start.” Don

“Good. Good. Want something to eat?” Grandma

“No I have to run. But I will take an apple. Love you grandma,” he kisses her goodbye. It isn’t till he gets to the station that he remembers he forgot to leave the letter for his Dad and grandma somewhere they could find it.

He arrives at the 23rd street station quickly, however when he gets to the front of the clinic there is already a line. Don gets on the back and counts about 18 people in front of him. He puts on his shades and tries his best to blend it.

There are all kinds of people on the line, mainly men. Some look like bums. One guy has on a three piece suit. There are a handful of females, some of whom look like prostitutes. Don wonders how he fits in.

By the time they start letting the infected into the clinic, there are about twenty to twenty-five people behind him. The chaos begins when the people at the front of the line cram into an elevator while the ones who can’t fit in the elevator run up the stairs in an effort to beat the ones in the elevator to the third floor.
